Are most GIM's in the stock market?

Are most or some of the readers here invested in the stock market? 401k, mutual funds, individual stocks?

Well hello NOOB, welcome aboard.
I,m just about 98% invested in the market, yes. I think I'll sell some of the stocks, to be in cash for about 10%.

The only stock I ever owned was Wal-Mart. I sold it about 2 months ago and bought silver.

Thanks for your answers. I have been doing a lot of reading here and other places and about everything seems to suggest a downward spiral for stocks.

This fits with my idea's and I am thinking about going to mostly cash. Just an idea, but with oil, gold and other comms going up I think stocks might take a hit.

And of course if tshtf your stock investments would be worthless for awhile?

Ah hell I dont know what to do!

Well it depends on the stock. Some companies do well in depressions. Some may even have assests in another country and could survive a dollar crash. Now if the whole world goes down you might have a problem, but you never know. Look around and you might find a good one.

I read an article a couple of years ago about how profoundly difficult it is to predict the future -- even for so-called experts. And I believe that to be true. I recall that an economist in 1929 just before the crash predicted that the market was fine and that stocks would continue to go up nearly forever. As you wade through history, you will find the story rife with predictions that were totally wrong.

Therefore, believing that the stock market will take a hit in the future, but being unable to predict *when*, I've chosen to be widely diversified. Stocks (small caps, natural resource mutual funds, European equities), bonds, insurance contracts, CDs, money markets, PMs, real estate are all part of my portfolio in an attempt to diversify away the risk. Will I escape unscathed if TSHTF? Of course not. But something in my investments will survive; and, in the meantime, I'll be happy to take whatever ride I can on the stock market bull.

Buy physical - then think about stocks...

I do not expect stocks to head south - I am fully invested and plan to stay that way for the next couple of years....

Good Luck

Warm welcome to GIM
